What RV Plumbing Issues Do We Handle?

I'm Michael Morris, and I've been working on RV plumbing systems in Fellsmere and Indian River County since 2011. Over 3,200 repairs later, I've seen just about every plumbing problem an RV can throw at you. Whether your water heater quit producing hot water, your Shurflo pump won't stop cycling, or you've got a mystery leak soaking your subfloor, we'll track it down and fix it right.

Our plumbing services cover the full system. That includes water heater repair and replacement for both Suburban and Dometic units, water pump diagnosis and swap-outs, leak detection using pressure testing and moisture meters, toilet rebuilds and full replacements, holding tank service for gray and black systems, faucet and fixture replacement, PEX pipe repair and re-routing, and water filtration installation. Have you noticed a musty smell you can't seem to find the source of? That's often a slow leak behind a wall panel, and it's one of the most common calls we get.

According to the RVIA, plumbing failures account for roughly 23% of all RV service calls nationwide. Here in Florida, that number runs even higher because of our mineral-heavy water and the stress that constant heat puts on fittings and seals. We stock the most common parts on our truck, so most repairs are finished in a single visit. No second appointments, no waiting on parts for a week.

Florida's Climate Hits RV Plumbing Hard

Ever wonder why your RV plumbing seems to need more attention in Florida than it did up north? It's not your imagination. Indian River County's heat, humidity, and mineral-rich water create a triple threat for every pipe, fitting, and valve in your rig. Summer temperatures above 95 degrees accelerate rubber seal degradation, and I've pulled toilet seals out of rigs in Fellsmere that dried out and cracked after just two seasons.

The water here is hard. Calcium and magnesium deposits build up inside water heater tanks, coat heating elements, and clog aerators in faucets. Dometic recommends flushing your water heater every 6 months in hard-water areas, and Indian River County definitely qualifies. I flush and inspect the anode rod on every water heater service call because a $12 rod can save you from a $400 tank replacement down the road.

Humidity is the silent problem. A small leak that might take months to cause damage in Arizona can grow mold and rot subfloor plywood within weeks here. That's why we pressure-test the system on every plumbing call, even if you called us for something unrelated. It takes five minutes and catches problems before they turn into expensive water damage repairs.

How It Works

Call for Estimate

Call 772-356-1760 or fill out our contact form. Tell us what's happening and we'll give you a ballpark range before we even show up. Photos of the problem help us bring the right parts on the first visit.

On-Site Diagnosis

We come to your RV's location, pressure-test the system, and inspect every fitting and valve we can access. For hidden leaks, moisture meters let us trace water behind wall panels and under flooring without tearing anything apart.

Expert Repair

You get a written price before we pick up a wrench. After the repair, we run the system at full pressure and verify every connection is dry. We don't pack up until you're satisfied and the system holds pressure.

RV Plumbing Repair FAQ

The top three are leaking fittings, failed water pumps, and water heaters that won't light. Indian River County's well water is hard, so mineral buildup clogs aerators and damages heating elements faster than usual. We also see a lot of dried-out toilet seals on RVs that sit between trips. About 40% of our plumbing calls involve leaks the owner didn't know about until the pump started cycling on its own.

On gas models, it's usually a dirty burner tube or a failed thermocouple. Mud daubers love nesting inside Suburban and Atwood burner tubes here in Florida. Electric models fail because of burned-out heating elements or a tripped ECO reset button. We carry replacement elements, thermocouples, and ignition boards for Dometic and Suburban units on our service truck so most jobs wrap up the same day.

The biggest giveaway is your water pump cycling on and off when nobody's using water. Other warning signs include soft or spongy spots in the floor, musty smells that won't go away, water stains on walls or ceilings, and your fresh tank draining faster than expected. In Florida's humidity, mold can start growing within 48 hours. We use pressure testing and moisture meters to trace leaks behind walls.

Repairs range from $95 to $1,800 depending on the job. A simple faucet swap or small leak fix starts around $95. Water pump replacement runs $95 to $350, and water heater repair costs $150 to $600. Holding tank service falls between $150 and $500. We always give you a written quote before starting work, so there are no surprises. Check our pricing table for a full breakdown.

Florida's heat speeds up waste breakdown and odor. Always keep a few inches of water in your black tank after dumping, and use an enzyme-based treatment instead of formaldehyde. Dump your tanks when they're two-thirds full for the best flush. We recommend a deep clean with a tank wand every 3 to 4 months. If your sensors read full after dumping, they're coated and need cleaning or replacement.

PEX wins for RVs almost every time. It's flexible enough to handle road vibration without cracking at joints, it resists freeze damage better than copper, and it costs less in both materials and labor. Copper develops fatigue cracks from bouncing and flexing during travel. The RVIA recommends PEX for new RV construction, and we use it for every replacement unless there's a specific reason to match existing copper lines.

Yes. We're available Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM, and we offer same-day service for urgent problems like burst pipes, major leaks, or a completely failed water system. If water is actively flooding your RV, call us right away at 772-356-1760. We'll walk you through shutting off your water pump and city connection while we're heading to your location.

Absolutely. Florida gets cold snaps that drop into the 20s and 30s, especially in January and February. That's enough to crack PEX fittings and damage a water heater. Winterization involves draining all lines and tanks, bypassing the water heater, and running non-toxic antifreeze through every fixture. The process takes about an hour. De-winterization in spring includes sanitizing the full fresh water system.
